HOW-TO pack for a trip with a toddler part 1

We’re headed to Estes Park, Colorado with our family on both sides for a whole week and I cannot be more excited. Not too excited about packing up our whole house (joking), but so excited to relax as much as you can with a toddler for a whole week. We go to Estes every other year and it’s so nice and relaxing. I don’t really wear any makeup and all my athleisure wear comes out!

MY TIPS ON getting through the airport:

  1. IMPORTANT: pull up to the airport and take everything out of the car. I put Finley in the stroller and literally just stand in the airport surrounded by all our stuff. Matthew goes and parks and comes back. Then we can check everything in.
  2. Stay as hands free as possible! Wear a backpack or a cross-body bag as your carry-on. See mine below!

CHECKING: I need 1) car seat in car seat bag 2) jogging stroller 3) pack and play and mattress insert 4) our luggage. These are the big annoying things you have to get rid of first! Obviously we’re checking all of these because I do not want to carry these around.  I purchased this car seat bag and we put our EXTRA car seat in it so when we get to the airport we can just go and we don’t have to take Finley’s out (and when you get back you’ll be thankful for this). Also, this bag is so big that this for the pack and play fits in it too!

So car seat is checked, pack and play is checked and your left with your babe in the stroller, you and your husband’s carry-ons and then luggage. Matthew will bring one medium sized luggage and I’ll bring a big one and we’ll check both. We put Finley’s stuff in my luggage. Also, only bring diapers, formula etc. for the time of travel. Once you get to your destination go buy all that stuff. That will keep you lighter. Once all this is checked you should be left with one carry-on each, and your stroller. DONE!

Keep your stroller until the gate, they will check it for you and you’ll get on the plane with just your carry-ons. My personal opinion: I’m taking things on the plane that Finley never sees or eats, new things. He will for the first time get the IPAD if I need it for distractions, new coloring books and his favorite cookies that I never give him.  Next post I’m showing you how I’m packing for myself and Finley in one suitcase.
